NXP’s DE200 DVB-T solution widely adopted by Chinese TV manufacturers
Helps achieve compliance with European broadcast standards, reduces time to market and lowers bill of materials
Eindhoven, The Netherlands, 4th September 2006 – NXP, the newly independent semiconductor company
founded by Philips, today announced widespread adoption of its DE200 Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB)
solution by several major Chinese Digital TV manufacturers. Since launching the DE200 solution in 2004,
NXP caters to a third of the European DVB-T Market.
The DE200 reference design is a highly integrated and cost effective “Bolt-On” solution that bridges
the gap between analog and digital reception in both LCD and CRT TV products. By making use of NXP's
IBOLink™ hardware and software interface, Chinese TV manufacturers can easily adapt their existing
analog TV chassis designs to meet the growing demand for Digital TVs both in the United Kingdom
(using MHEG 5 standard) and in mainland Europe.
"Europe will overtake the US with regard to digital TV penetration by the end of 2010, with almost
69% of European households having made the transition to digital services¹," said Adrian Drozd, Senior
Media & Broadcasting analyst at Datamonitor. "This growth will, in part, be fuelled by the choice
of high definition television sets available, with price and quality being the main buying criteria for
European consumers."
"The DE200 reference design is easily adaptable, with built-in European broadcast standards and a
short development cycle, making it very attractive to our Chinese customers," said Alun Whittington
Jones, Regional Marketing Manager, Greater China, NXP. "With the explosive demand for digital TVs,
OEMs and ODMs need cost effective system solutions with rapid time-to-market and low bills of material.
The DE200 is helping our Chinese customers offer just that."
At IFA 2006, noted Chinese manufacturers are demonstrating their Digital / LCD TV sets powered by the
NXP DE200 solution. These include Hisense, Skyworth, Konka, Changhong, Mitsumaru Eastkit, Alco and
China Hualu Group.
